Nukii Encrypted USB Drive: Setup, Sharing & Security

Nukii is Maktar’s hardware-encrypted USB storage device with NFC unlocking through a compatible phone. It is designed for carrying files you want to keep protected while the drive is locked. You need the Nukii app, a Maktar account and a supported NFC phone; the computer does not need separate Nukii encryption software.

How unlocking and locking work

1. Install the Nukii app on a compatible NFC phone and follow its account and device setup instructions.
2. Use the app’s unlock function and hold the drive at the phone’s NFC sensor as instructed.
3. Connect the unlocked drive to a compatible computer and work with your files.
4. Finish file transfers and safely eject the drive before unplugging it. Nukii locks when disconnected.

Phone NFC placement and app requirements vary. Allow setup time and confirm you can unlock and open test files before relying on the drive. A phone used for authentication is not automatically a supported destination for direct file transfers.

Sharing with trusted users

You can add a trusted person’s Maktar account to the share list. Plan access carefully and review it when someone no longer needs the drive. See Maktar’s sharing instructions.

When remote content erase takes effect

Remote Content Erase requires a registered share user. According to Maktar’s support instructions, the files are erased when that share user next connects Nukii to a computer and unlocks it. Simply inserting a lost drive into any computer does not establish that the command will execute.

Erasure permanently removes the contents and cannot be undone. Keep another copy of important files and do not use remote erase to troubleshoot a connection problem. Review the official remote erase instructions before using the feature.

What encrypted storage does and does not cover

Encryption helps protect stored files while access is locked. Once a drive is unlocked, a computer or authorized user can access its files. Use trusted computers, maintain account security and keep a second copy in a separate location. Local storage does not remove files you already shared or uploaded elsewhere.

Nukii is a file-storage device, not a transaction-signing hardware wallet. This guide does not recommend using it as a replacement for a dedicated wallet or recovery plan.

Do I need to install software?

Will remote erase immediately wipe a lost drive?

No. The documented function takes effect when a registered share user next connects and unlocks the drive. It is not a guarantee that an unknown person’s insertion will erase it.

What if I replace my phone?

Retain access to the original authorized Maktar account and follow the app’s recovery instructions. If you encounter an unexpected binding or erase prompt, contact support before making changes that could affect stored files.
